Last weekend 21-year-old Jessica Fingers was found dead in a Columbia University dorm. Fingers, who was taking a year off from college, was visiting her boyfriend and a friend at the university when she passed. She was discovered face up in East Campus dorm and was unresponsive on the floor, on Sunday morning.
The university’s blog site, BWOG, released the statement from the university’s Dean of Student Affairs Kevin Shollenberger regarding the young woman’s passing.
Fingers was a distance runner on the Track & Field team and allegedly was attending Columbia University on a full scholarship. It has been reported that Fingers took a year off so she could “deal with blood clots”, some of which even lead to strokes. No foul play has been suspected in her death.
Her mother, Athena, says that Fingers would go to the university to visit her boyfriend. She says, “I never liked him. He influenced the decisions she made in the last few months. He wasn’t good for her. She said she was in love. That’s why she wanted to go to the city all the time, to see him.”
Little is currently known about her boyfriend at this time. His identity is still unknown. Still, Jessica was a lovely and creative person. She had a peacefully energy and was adored by many. Her positive outlook and friendly spirit was appreciated by everyone that came in contact with her. An autopsy is still pending and the results of that will help to determine her cause of death.
