Young soap opera star Greg Rikaart came out the closet this past weekend while celebrating New York’s Gay Pride. I was told once by my highs school teacher that “the numbers for gays don’t change-people just come out the closet.” Well, I congratulate the young man on his freedom and moment of liberation. We live in a very judgemental society, his courage is appreciated and valued.
Rikaart posted a photo of him cuddling with a man who apparently is his boyfriend on Thursday, June 27, just one day after the Supreme Court struck down DOMA as unconstitutional, GayStarNews notes. Although he attended the Los Angeles Gay & Lesbian Center’s An Evening With Women event last month, this appears to be the first time he has addressed his sexuality publicly.
The 36-year-old Brooklyn native later tweeted thanks to all his Twitter followers. On Sunday he retweeted a message about coming out: “On a pride day like no other… I remember the courage of those who came out four, five and six decades ago, when things we so much bleaker.”
