Captain Ron Johnson delivers powerful message to Michael Brown’s family

It’s no secret Missouri Highway Patrol Captain Ron Johnson has won over the community of Ferguson.

He’s been a staple at protests and demonstrations since Thursday — walking side by side with residents who feel Michael Brown was wrongfully killed at the hands of police.

Sunday, Johnson continued to endear himself to those still outraged by his death. Speaking at a “unity rally” at Greater Grace Church, Johnson apologized on behalf of the law enforcement community and offered his direct support of Michael Brown’s family.

He then delivered what sounded more like a sermon than a message.

“When this is over, I’m going to go into my son’s room … my black son,” Johnson said to applause. “[He] wears his pants sagging, wears his hat cocked to the side, got tattoos on his arm … but that’s my baby.”

Thousands attended the rally in Ferguson Sunday, and hundreds more were reportedly gathered outside the church.

“Michael’s going to make it better for our sons so they can be better black men,” Johnson continued. “Better for our daughters so they can be better black women. Better for me so I can be a better black father. And we know they’re going make our mothers even better than they are today.”
