In a poorly thought out attempt to upbraid Donald Trump for his recent controversial statements regarding Latinos, Kelly Osbourne actually added insult to the injury already suffered by the Latino community.
After other The View hosts Michelle Collins, Raven-Symone, Whoopi Goldberg, and Rosie Perez started speaking about Trump’s lead in the polls, Kelly attempted to call out Trump, foolishly blurting out, “If you kick every Latino out of this country, then who is going to be cleaning your toilet, Donald Trump?”
Co-host Rosie Perez promptly corrected her, saying “There’s more jobs than that in the country for Latinos, and Latinos are not the only people who clean toilets.” Osbourne desperately tried to dig her way out of the mess she had made, “Come on, you know I would never mean it like that,” Osbourne said.
Twitter promptly responded using the hashtag #QueridaKellyOsbourne (Dear Kelly Osbourne). One person tweeted, “#QueridaKellyOsbourne, your comments are no less dehumanizing than Donald Trump’s.” Another tweeted, “Mom came to US w/nothing. Her labor is labor of love for herself & her family. If ppl only see toilet scrubbing, gtfo #QueridaKellyOsbourne”
Co-host Whoopi Goldberg defended Osbourne on the next day’s edition of The View, “I want to just start by making something clear: The point she was actually trying to make was that Donald Trump’s stance on immigration will only end up hurting the people that Donald Trump is counting on,” Goldberg explained.
Osbourne maintains that she is not racist, coming to her own defense via Facebook the same day, “I want to start by saying I ALWAYS take responsibility for my actions,” Osbourne said in her post, “ In this particular case I will take responsibility for my poor choice of words but I will not apologize for being a racist as I am NOT. I whole-hearted f*cked up today. I don’t want to bullshit anyone with lame excuses. Although, I was stopped mid-sentence by Rosie and couldn’t finish my point I will not let Rosie take responsibility for my words. I should have known better as I was on The View and it was live. I’ve learned a very valuable lesson. It is my hope that this situation will open up a conversation about immigration and the Latin community as a whole. By the way I clean my own f*cking toilets.”
